The Janzen Boys - performing at Miller Crossing Farmers Market Aug 14

Performing at the Miller Crossing Farmers’ Market this Sunday (Aug 14)

Father-and-sons trio, The Janzen Boys, got their start busking as a rootsy, harmony-singing family playing in various places around Winnipeg, Manitoba. It wasn’t long, however, before there was a demand for more. After racking up almost 4000 views on YouTube in the University of Winnipeg’s Uniter Fiver contest for new bands, they were chosen for a showcase at Winnipeg’s iconic West End Cultural Centre. From there the ball started to roll and soon their 4 song EP was being played on radio stations around Manitoba. The bands schedule filled up with house concerts and festival gigs all over the province. The highlight of the summer was their Western Canada Busking Roadie which took them all the way to B.C. and back, playing in music venues, farmer’s markets, and public spaces from here to Kelowna.

The following summer, the Boys wrote the story and music for a play called Blink’s Garden that they performed, in cooperation with other groups in the community, for the 2015 Winnipeg Fringe Festival. This resulted multiple sellouts, a 4 star review from the CBC, and a positive mention in The Winnipeg Free press in an article entitled “Has the Fringe been Politically Neutered?” The band hopes to continue these successes this summer when they take the play on the road to the 2016 Edmonton Fringe Festival.

In addition to the Fringe Festival the band kept busy on the summer festival circuit, performing at The Teddy Bear Picnic, Dauphin CountryFest, The Fire and Water Festival in Lac du Bonnet, and Pioneer Days in Steinbach.

Now The Janzen Boys are partnering with Juno-award winning producer Murray Pulver to develop the music portion of their Fringe Festival performances.

The Janzen Boys have released a 4 song EP produced by local producer JP Laurendeau. Check it out at http://www.thejanzenboys.bandcamp.com or on iTunes.

Or listen in on Soundcloud.

Our Farmers’ Market

Miller Crossing Farmer's Market is serving the North-East area of the city. We are in our third year of operation. The market is open all year round. Starting May 28 2017 we move outdoors for the summer season. We are open Sundays from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Our goal is to provide a marketplace that encourages the local community to support a “Buy Local” philosophy and at the same time provide access to high quality, fresh, nutritious, locally-grown produce in a convenient location.
